Hey there. Been awhile.
So what have I been up to? Other than letting old projects languish. I've been working away on some tabletop role-playing games. I've been quite interested in designing my own games since I was quite young. The vast, vast majority of them have never been played or even seen by other people, but I still enjoy working on them. I think the only one that has seen any use is a yet unnamed fantasy system that I have been playing with a group of friends. We used to play Dungeons and Dragons, first fourth edition then fifth, but some events kind of soured my opinion of Wizards of the Coast so I came up with my own system. It's been working well so far and my friends seem to enjoy playing it. Another one I've been working on is a cyberpunk system that I was going to use to start a podcast. But I think even though I have spent a lot of time on it and really wanted to make it work that it might very likely end up in the "game system graveyard".
The most recent one that I'm currently writing is one based on Battletech. I remember getting the boxed set, loving the rules, but never having anyone to play it with. The construction rules particularly interested me. When the Harebrained Studios game came out I played it for hours. I rediscovered it a month or two ago and absolutely loved the Battletech Advanced 3062 set of mods. So naturally my thoughts soon turned back to the tabletop rules. I got the Beginner Box for Christmas one year, and after digging it out and flipping through the rules I soon got the urge to write my own rules for the game. So I did.
It's actually one of my most complete game systems that I've written. A lot of the rules are much simpler that the official ones, which I like since it means there is less flipping through rule books and less trying to decipher how the rules apply to certain situations. I've also scrapped the reliance on six sided dice and hex maps, although some people may view that as heresy. Oh well. A lot of the numbers have been tweaked as well to make the math easier. I think it is pretty much ready for playtesting, which brings me back to the old problem: finding people to play with. Otherwise it goes into the "game system graveyard" with the others.
